    What do you know about Bayano and the fight against slavery in Panama, the legend around "La Negrita" in Costa Rican folklore, or about the environmental and human rights activism of Afro-Indigenous Garifuna leader Miriam Miranda in Honduras? Looking at popular history, cultural studies, and the arts, this seminar emphasizes the pivotal role that Africans and their descendants have played in the social, economic, and political fabric of Central America from the sixteenth century to the present.
