Roman Chacon is a historian of the African diaspora, Latin America, and the Caribbean. He currently teaches “Introduction to Caribbean Studies” at Rutgers University in New Brunswick and has previously taught at New York University. His doctoral research traces the emergence of an influential network of Haitian and North American folklorists, musicologists, and anthropologists in the early twentieth century. He has presented his research at the American Folklore Society, Howard University in Washington D.C., and the Université Quisqueya in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. He is also an amateur musician, multi-instrumentalist, and recording engineer who enjoys performing music from his research.
