Dr. Roxana A. Curiel is an interdispiplinary scholar and activist. Her approach draws upon visual studies, critical race theory, sociology, history, and queer and feminist theories in the U.S. and Latin America. her work analyzes representations of bodies that challenge normative notions of citizenship, gender, and race in nationalist ideologies and the work of marginalized communities resisting Nation-State Governments.
Dr. Curiel explores cultural productions that expose some of the deadliest immigration enforcement strategies in the U.S., Mexico, Guatemala, and El Salvador. Moreover, she reckons with the ethics of constructing migration narratives, the position of collective trauma in the study of immigration, and the possibilities of community healing through art and grassroots economies.
