Latino History

 

The history of Mexican Americans in the US involves extensive migration to a region that was historically part of Mexico itself, but that was undergoing great transformation under the influence of Anglo-controlled political and economic institutions. 

 

Select one aspect of the Mexican American experience in the West and South-west and discuss how the specifics of the three different historical and regional contexts we have read about interacted with the process of emigration and affected the formation of Mexican-American communities and the experiences, structured or diverse, of Mexican Americans themselves.

 

You can select from themes like work experience, housing, labor organizing, relations with other ethnic groups, “Americanization,” cultural life, etc. Be creative!

 

I encourage all of you to come to office hours to discuss your approach to the paper!
