Cuban History
This is the theme for the first paper. It is due Monday October 6.

What were the major historical forces that shaped Cuban society between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Discuss the interactions between the different forces that shaped Cuba's society and economy in this period.  How did these forces affect the island's demography and
social structure?  What role did Spanish colonial rule play in these developments and what was the local impact of Spanish rule and integration into a global european-controlled economy?

I reccomend  that you review your notes and readings and start working on an outline.  Feel free to contact me with a draft or outline or any question at all.  There are many different ways to discuss these questions.  At the very least I want to see that you have digested the materials from the first few weeks of the semester and can start putting them together in your own terms.  Also feel free to try to move past an exposition of the facts to making an argument based on them.

Please follow Turabian or Chicago Humanities (or Prucha) manual of style.  That means full footnote references (not parenthetical).
