The Department of Latino
and Hispanic Caribbean Studies offers an interdisciplinary program
of study that examines the diverse political, social, and cultural
histories of the Spanish-speaking societies of the Caribbean, as
well as those of communities of Latin American descent in the United
States.
Students are exposed
to a wide range of perspectives drawn from the social sciences and
the humanities. The department of Latino and Hispanic Caribbean
Studies works closely with other departments to foster a more comprehensive
learning experience for its students. Students are strongly advised
to double major whenever possible, and the faculty works closely
with students who wish to pursue individual programs of study. Academic
and cultural activities are scheduled regularly to supplement and
enrich the classroom experience. The department's interdisciplinary
structure supports collaborative research and a coordinated and
coherent curriculum that draws from diverse perspectives.
