The Department

The Department of Latino and Hispanic Caribbean Studies offers an interdisciplinary program of study that examines the diverse political, social, and cultural histories of the Spanish-speaking societies of the Caribbean, as well as those of communities of Latin American descent in the United States.

Students are exposed to a wide range of perspectives drawn from the social sciences and the humanities. The department of Latino and Hispanic Caribbean Studies works closely with other departments to foster a more comprehensive learning experience for its students. Students are strongly advised to double major whenever possible, and the faculty works closely with students who wish to pursue individual programs of study. Academic and cultural activities are scheduled regularly to supplement and enrich the classroom experience. The department's interdisciplinary structure supports collaborative research and a coordinated and coherent curriculum that draws from diverse perspectives.
