This course explores the literary, cultural, and artistic formations that emerged from New World slavery and colonialism, both throughout the Caribbean archipelago and across its many diasporas in the New and Old Worlds.  We address issues of aesthetics and representation, cross-cultural dialogue, and explore how questions of race, gender, and sexuality impact the creative expression of Caribbean writers and artists working within a variety of literary genres and a number of cultural forms.
